Part-time Outreach Coordinator Needed for the Healthy Work Campaign

@Center for Social Epidemiology and the Healthy Work Campaign

The Center for Social Epidemiology (CSE) is a small, nonprofit organization located in Los Angeles, CA and the sponsor of the Healthy Work Campaign (www.healthywork.org). The HWC is a public health campaign focused on raising awareness in the U.S. about the impacts of (psychosocial) work stress on mental and physical health and safety. The campaign focuses  on promoting occupational health research and preventing work stress-related illness by educating workers, unions, OHS advocates and employers on positive actions to advance #healthywork.

The CSE engages a Director and Associate Director and a small number of research staff or consultants who have collaborated for many years on social-epidemiological research that examines the impact of work stress(ors) on cardiovascular and mental health across industries and sectors. We conclude that  a participatory action approach, involving workers, labor and management working together to create workplace change is best. The Healthy Work Campaign aims to 1) raise public awareness using multi-media education strategies, 2) help workers, labor and employers assess psychosocial risks in the workplace, 3) equip all interested parties with tools and resources that can facilitate work improvements and 4) inspire action and a movement to change the culture of work by promoting the message about healthy work, change the organization of work and improve job quality.

The CSE is looking to hire a part-time Outreach Coordinator with experience in public health/occupational health and safety, and labor organizing to help coordinate the Healthy Work Campaign. We are looking for a person, preferably located in Los Angeles or Southern California environs, who can collaborate with CSE Directors and research staff on developing training materials and providing training to diverse groups, including union members and staff, occupational health and safety practitioners, and community OSH worker advocates, and others.

Workshops would include training on using the HWC tools to assess the workplace, educate, train and mobilize workers, or to develop collective ideas for workplace improvements.
  • Liaise with organizations interested in partnering at various levels with the Healthy Work Campaign. Collaborate on developing or providing HWC educational material for use on partner websites or social media.
  • Willing and able to also work with management and businesses interested in creating healthy workplaces and in supporting the HWC.
  • Track the progress of the HWC outreach campaign by keeping records online in campaign databases.
  • Meet weekly with the HWC core team to report on the progress of the above efforts.
